I just sold my car and i had the wrong plates on it.?

Well i sold my car today at around 1pm and the person who bought it calls me back around 8pm saying she just got pulled over and the plates on the car belong to a different car so the cops impounded the car.The thing is i didn't know it had the wrong plate on it and i'd probably accidentally put my brother old car plate on it instead of the right plates.So now that person is saying that since it was my fault i have to pay the impounded fee to get her car back or else she wants her money back.
1. The car was sold as a final sale and she already sign the title and the bill of sale.
2. She had 7 hours which is enough time to get the car home and get new plates.
3. Since the car now is under her name and she got pulled over isn't it her own fault.
So my Question is who's at fault here?

She should not have been driving without her own plates and registration. You should have never let your plates out of you sight. But ultimatly you have no resposibility for her getting pulled over or impounded. |

If the car is in her name and she was using your old plates then that would cause this to happen as well. I know in my state when you sell a car to someone they are supposed to get it transferred into their name and get insurance before they move the vehicle. Now...no one usually does this. But you letting her use your tags was above and beyond what you had to do to complete the sale. Not to mention kindof foolish on your part because even though you signed the title and transferred ownership if she would have ran a redlight with the car when she left your house and gotten into an accident it would have fallen back onto you. Its her fault at this point. Tell her to take you to court if she has issues. She will get the hint and walk away. |
