How can i register it under my name or what's the procedure for these type of transactions? I guess this guy got the car free from an auction but they never issued him a tittle.

go to dmv.do a title search (find out who owns the car/ or it be stolen,which it will show on the report) then, you will have to re-verify that the title has been signed off.(meaning you can put it in your name. if not..big trouble.. you have to track last person who owned the car,and get them to sign off on the car,and if so,send certified letters.just in case you have to go to court.. as for auctions.. they alway make sure they are clear. |

call the dmv first, let them know that you are thinking about buying this car and you want to confirm that this car doesnt have any back fees and give them the plate number or vin. They will let you know, also, if its stolen, theyll tell you, then you just hang up and part the car out or whatever. If its not, you can ask them how to register it. You might have to just find the original previous owner and have that person give you the title or give you paperwork signed for a duplicate title bill of sale without title, I'm not sure what it was called. Hopefully you get someone on the phone who is cool, sometimes you get someone who just doesnt want to help. |

This deal stinks and he is trying to dump a car on to you that HE couldn`t get registered himself and make a few bucks!
He couldnt even scrap it without paperwork! |

I never heard of an auction giving a car away with no title.
Your friend needs to give you a bill of sale and an application for duplicate title signed by him. If he was given the vehicle by an auction, he would have received enough paperwork for him to register the vehicle in his name. If he can not produce that paperwork there is something wrong with his story.
You can not just go to DMV and ask to have a title put in your name If that were the case, every stolen vehicle in CA would have a new title. I suggest you think very hard about taking this vehicle. |

you should just have to go down the the DMV and give them the vehicle information and apply for a duplicate title and that will then cancel the old one outta the system. |
