For car insurance, it was under my husband's and mine's account. We are billed $490 but my husband passed away. Anyway, I did automatic payment on the 15th charged from my bank account and on the same day I called the insurance company to update my insurance, exclusively under my name because my husband passed away already. He said that I don't have to pay the 490 balance but we will start fresh....but I already paid the 490 and it appears from my bank statement as deducted. Can I get back or cancel it? I couldn't call them this time because it's too early yet.

You don't get it back because you would only be giving it to them right away. They will have it as a credit on account toward the new policy in your name only. They will bill you, or refund any difference in premium. |

I believe you CAN INDEED get your money returned. Although, it may depend on the insurance company? When I told my old insurance I was dropping them and had already found a new company, they sent me a return for the days I didn't use it.
So if the time you paid for is not going to be used in the future, they may be able to send you a refund for that unused time. Just tell them you won't be needing it.
