No. If he feels that way, tell him he can help pay the car insurance, or pay for it all. He should be more than willing to help you help him.

Of course he would think it belongs to him. I would let him have it and tell him to start paying for the insurance. His first down payment would be? The check would be a good start. ;)

I put my kids on my policy but they pay for their insurance. That is THEIR responsibility. Thhe grades are their responsibility. That is their job.

This is more of a parenting question, don't you suppose?

Technically the money belongs to you. But he made the good grades happen...so couldn't you throw the dog a bone? Otherwise, I think he might wonder what's the point of getting good grades. Then you will be in a power struggle, that if he feels that way you have to punish him for bad grades by taking the car.

Technically, it's yours but he's the one who put in the effort for those good grades. Maybe you shouldn't undercut his hard work by taking away all the reward.

I would put it in a bank account for him to go to college or something. Or, you could take some, since you pay the insurance, and give him some of it as the reward for good grades.

Or you could be like, "This is my house! Don't make me put my foot in your a**!" This option is the funniest one, but I personally would pick the college fund.

NO. He did not pay for the INS in the first place, but he
did help out by getting good grades. Maybe you could
give him a portion of the rebate of the INS cost which is
yours. If he wants to pay for his INS in the future, then he
would get all future rebates.

If his grades are good, he hasn't gotten any tickets, takes care of the car, etc.. a few dollars for him as a reward would be cool.

Well the fact of the matter is that you would have paid the insurance whether he got good grades or not. Unless you made an agreement with him that you would only pay unless he got good grades.

In this case he worked hard and got great marks. The insurance company wants to cut him a check for doing so well, be proud of two things.

1, That your kid got the good grades.

2. That he got money back from an insurance company...that dont happen often.

Let the kids spend it on sneaks or some new XBox game.
