I received a letter from allstate yesterday....?

they claim they will not renew my policy because they found out that my house is less than 6 miles away from the shore.......can they do that? This is the policy that came with my mortgage when i bought the house 5 years ago. Any idea what is really going on? Serious answers please....i am a bit worried.

Allstate, or any company, has the right to select what it will and won't insure, and Allstate has taken a bath in the recent hurricanes. You need to start shopping for homeowners PDQ. If you haven't had any claims, hurricane or not, that will help.
If all else fails, your state may have a "pool" arrangement for shore properties, but premiums are usually bad and coverage pretty bare bones. If it comes to that, any agent or the state department of insurance should be able to help you get coverage. |

Yes, they reserve the right to cancel at anytime. You must live in Florida.The reason i say that, I hear a whole lot of people are being canceled in Florida. I am sorry to all of those folks :( |
