Some insurers forgive the first accident if you have been accident-free for a specified number of years. I know that is true of State Farm. You need to ask your insurer.
Also, if your deductible is $1000 go ahead and pay the claim yourself. Otherwise, ask your insurer whether you are eligible to be forgiven the first accident. If not, ask what a claim what do to your rates. Then, choose whatever option is the less expensive.

Are you sure you caused the damage? I got into a small wreck and the other driver wanted to fix without insurance. All the damages he claimed sounded odd to my insurance, since my car had no damage at all. The insurance companies are still figuring it out. I would say let your insurance deal with it, you pay them for a reason. Most insurance companies will not give you an increase in rates if you are not at fault. You could pay the damages and later have the person file a lawsuit. |

If you can keep from filing a claim with your insurance company it is always a good idea. If you file a claim chances are your premiums will go up. |

you don't have to go through you insurance. Just make sure you get the estimates (at least two) to fix the car before you pay and then ask to pay the body shop yourself. However, they are under no obligation to actually fix the damage with the money, even in an insurance claim. So they may just ask the for the money. |

If you don't have to make a claim, don't do it. Some insurance companies are known to drop customers after 3 claims, even long term customers. Only make a claim when it's really necessary. When you agree on an amount, type out a letter stating when the accident was, there were no bodily injuries, the agreed amount, and have it signed by the person you're giving the money to. He may also write his own statement that he wants you to sign. Bottom line, get the agreed amount in writing. |

As long as you can pay for it and the person you hit is ok with that, then I wouldn't tell the insurance company. That will only increase your premium!!!
Also, get a quote from esurance.com. My premiums have actually gone down. They're great! |

If you can keep off the record go for it. I use Unitrin and judging by my experience they give you a freebie. One oopsie and they won't raise your rates - have another and they let you have it. But know this...you are required by law to report any accident where there are damages over $500.00. |

In a situation like this you may want pay the damages your self due to the amt of repairs your rates could go up as much as 20-30 percent. Although that is not likely due to no previous accidents. Generally if your at fault, and damages are less than 999 dollars your rates should be fine. If your at fault, and damages for other veh are more than 999$ rates could go up.. Also if your in an accident, and not at fault the damages could be 1 dollar to 10,000, and your rates should stay the same. That would only be damages to your veh of course... |

If this was your fault, and you are assuming your policy won't go up if you pay out of pocket because your insurance won't know, you're wrong. When renewal time comes it will show up in public records if there was a police report. Also you are supposed to report any accident that costs over $500 to fix regardless. If you don't, they now have a reason to drop you.
Report it. If it's your first, you won't get much if any increase. |

Take care thru the insurcance, If the other driver comes back and says "OOOOhhh my neck" then your responsible. It may hurt right now to do it but in the long run you don't have to worry about it. Plus the insurance will be better with paying now then being sued later for something they no nothing about. But its your call good luck what ever you decide. Happy new year! |
