I scratched a girls car in the parking lot, and we didn't exchange insurance...?

It was pouring like crazy, and no one could see and the parking lot was crazy. I pulled up slightly when trying to get out and slightly hit this girls back bumper (we were at a school). Her car had a slight scratch on the back of her car. Mine had no damage. I got out of the car, and tried to talk with her. I apologized and whatnot, and waited to see what she wanted to do. She told me to just leave. We did not exchange information. Can I still get in trouble? There was hardly any damage, and she just told me to leave. I'm nervous though and I feel terrible. I know it was my fault, but I don't know her and obviously didn't get her information either. Can I get in trouble for this?

You did what is legally required of you after the accident. If the other person didn't want your information, that is her problem (she may have had drugs or other illegal issues related to her car, and therefore, did not want an 'incident' that might create a paper trail - or that might involve the police).

Unless this person knows you, how would she ever file a claim against you if she changed her mind?

Now, to protect yourself (and, to relieve your anxiety), I would do the following:

1) Write down on a piece of paper (sign and date it - it is a legal document) exactly what happened during the accident, what you did and said, what the other person said and did, etc. This will be your legal "documentation" of the incident.

2) Contact YOUR car insurance company and report the incident to them.

These two steps will protect you from any accusations of malfeasance or misconduct on your part, in the unlikely event that this accident should come back to you in the future.

The only thing that can happen is she comes back asking for your insurance. She can't call the police because they don't handle parking lots. She may contact the school, but it sounds like she doesn't care about the damages, which is great for you. Don't worry, if she didn't want your insurance, you can't force her to take it. You're ok.

I had a similar experience about 8 months ago, hit some 1s car while reversing, although both cars did have slight Strach and it was my fault, other driver refused to exchange details, As long as u don't exchange details ur fine. most ppl usualy don't exchange details over minor accidents coz it will effect both premium urs and the person on the other vehicle. Don't worry dude, u b alright.
