I turn 16 tomorrow, I get my license, what was it it like when any of you tunred 16?

Happy 16th! I had a big suprise party and it was awesome. Then had a few of the girls come over for a sleepover. We had loads of fun. And i got my license as well, and got to start driving to school, so that was pretty cool!

Just like the day before I turned 16. Now, a week later was different... had to pay for my own gas, save money for my own car insurance, save money for car maintenance, run more errands for my family to help them out. With great privilege comes great responsibility.

Here in Australia you can apply for your learners at 16 - that means that you are allowed to start learning to drive once you have passed a written test - you are not allowed to drive on your own you must have a licensed person with you and these days I dont know how many hours but there is something like a 120 hour drive experience limit minimum - we are allowed to go for our probationary license at 18 and this means that you can drive alone but you must remain at 0% blood alcohol count while driving - when I got my license it was 2 years on probationary license these days its 3 years THEN you get your full license.

Congratulations on your 16th birthday. That totally rocks!
Let's see, my Mom and I had a HUGE argument about taking me to get my license. She didn't have 'time'.
Yah, whatever - it's not like you didn't know my 16th birthday was coming up. It's not like you could PLAN or anything!
I don't actually remember when I got it. Just remember dropping my Mom off at home and driving to my friend's house so that I could driver her around the 'block'. (I grew up in a rural area, I think that block was like 10 miles)
Mmm, it's only been like 27 years - that's about all I remember.
Birthdays get better, though, that I can assure you!

Happy Birthday. I remember when I got my driver's license and that was a very long time ago. I took my mom's car for a ride and ran out of gas. I still love to drive.

Gas was .29 a gallon, and asking for the car (and there was usually one to a family) was NOT a guarantee that you would get it. If you got a ticket for a moving violation, your license was suspended, which meant you didn't drive. And since everyone in town knew you, there was no chance to gun the engine or race your friends without getting caught.

Well Happy Birthday to you! And good luck on getting your license. When I was 16 things were pretty different. It was 1973. You weren't required to have auto insurance. There were no restrictions on your license at all. You could be out on the streets at night with no fears. You could hitchhike and not worry about a weirdo picking you up. Kids had parties when their parents went out of town or had them at closed up golf courses at night. You could stand in front of a liquor store and find someone to buy you alcohol. If there were problems with you and another teen you could work it out without killing each other. Teens didn't carry guns or do drive by shootings. We didn't have internet, dvd players, mp3's or even video recorders. We listened to 8 track tapes and cassettes. Cassettes were considered high tech. We also listened to albums. I didn't even get my license until I was 17 because I could always get a ride from a friend or could hitchhike wherever I wanted to go. Teens used to hang out at Mc Donalds parking lot or the mall and no one complained. We also used to have dances that were sponsered by some churches in our area. But they had good rock bands that played music teens liked. Gas was under a $1.00 and cigarettes were under a $1.00. Drugs were plenty and pure. Oh I could go on & on. So many things have changed. Enjoy your youth and be safe with your new license.

Happy sweet 16 to you.... I was so happy to get to drive but the car was in someone elses name so I had to wait to practice when I got my own car... I went without my dad and bought a buick station wagon. the power steering went out right away so I had to wait until I could buy another car. It was still allot of fun to know that I was elgeble to drive.
Drivers ed seemed easy compared to other classes I am a bit suprised when I heard other kids were failing the class.

i went to a waterpark and spent the night at the hotel the water park was at. I got a bunch of my friends together and went. it was so much fun!

last time I was 16 was in 1976 long long time ago and by the way gas was like 56cents per gallon back then

Funny story, actually:
I lived in Minnesota and was taking my driving tests and learning to drive at the time the state was changing from paper permits to hard permits (just like a license).

My permit expired one week before I took my test. I had to get it renewed and they told me I would get a hard permit in 30 days.
A week later, I took my driving test and passed. They said I would get my license in 30 days.

23 days later, I received a license. 7 days after that, I got another license! Yep, they screwed up and didn't issue the renewed permit until after I took my test, so when they looked up my status, it said "licensed".

Needless to say, it was a VERY good birthday!

Well first happy b-day, anyway it was great i got my license, i could turn up the music as loud as i wanted go as fast as i wanted to and no one was there to yell at you thats the best part about it.

Not 16 yet, but I imagine sitting on the couch, watching TV on my brithday.
