I wanna buy a car in ca state and transfer my pa plate there? is it possible to drive?

If you purchase a new vehicle from a dealership, it will be issued new regular California plates and they will require insurance coverage at the time of purchase. If you purchase a used vehicle that has license plates already, those plates remain on the vehicle. You cannot assign your PA plates or any other out-of-state plate to a California vehicle. You are required to get insurance from a company that is authorized to do business and can cover vehicles in California.

Plates are for cars in the state in which the owner resides. Insurance will transfer over, *if you do not tell your ins company, the car will not be covered in this type of instance*. Purchasing an auto, the tags and bill of sale etc taxes, are due in a very short time after purchasing, or huge fines will incure. Also if you slap the plates on and get caught that is huge so dont do it. Also lapses in ins will cost more to start it back up unless you certify with teh dmv the car is non op, and after doing that, many inspections at your cost will be needed before the dmv will reinstate it as drivable and tagable. Your ins may owe you money back or you may owe a small amt more depending on the year and model.

If you are a CA resident, then you need a CA plate. Most likely, your insurance company will allow a transfer if you contact them, though.

You shouldn't be required to pay more.

Calif cars must have two Calif Plates. It's that simple.

When you tell your insurance company that your selling your car and buying a new one in another state, they will start a new policy for a new VIN#. Your Ins. Co. may not cover cars in Calif. So they may wind up giving you a refund on the unused portion of your policy.

In CA plates go with the car, not with the owner.

If you drive it here in Cali without Ca plates your subject to fines and if you tick the cop off it can get towed away. We have had a problem with people coming from out of state and not registering their car even when they have been here for a year or so, so then they started cracking down on the out of starters. and the people who call is usually the person who you just cut off.

I bought a used car from a dealership in CA. The dealership registered the car and mailed me the new sticker to put on the CA plates that came with the car when I bought it. My problem is the registration is valid from 10/2010 to 10/2011. I didn't even buy the car until 3/2011, so my car will not even be registered for a year and then I have to register it again. Although, I paid $700.00+ dollars through financing to the dealership. I don't know how long the dealership had the car prior to me buying it. I will have had the car for 7 months and then have to get new tags for it again.....does not seem fair! Is this legal for the dealership to do?
