My son was diagnosed with cancer in November last year. I have decided to buy a car so that my daughter can drive my son to and from hospital and help me with the shopping etc. As my daughter lives in a "car free zone" she can not get a residential parking permit, she only lives a few blocks away. so therefore the car will have to be in my name because of this. will my name have to go on the insurance? and is it ok for me to have my daughter as a named driver.

you have to be a registered keeper in order for me to obtain a parking permit foir her. Her flat is in a car free zone, so she will never be able to park it. we both live in blocks of flats

As you will be the registered keeper you will have to be the insurer, you will also have to have a valid licence, even if it is only a provisional, and as such you will be classified as a learner driver which will make your premiums rather high.
Your daughter can be added as an additional driver (could even possibly teach you to drive).
Incidentally there is no reason why your daughter cannot have the car registered in her name, hold single insurance for herself and keep the vehicle at your address, much cheaper and still legal option. |

Put the car in your daughters name (It's the registered Keeper, not registered Owner that's on the V5)
Insure it in your daughters name
Show it as being kept at your address at night.
Shouldn't be a problem as all of that is quite legal. |

Obviously if you buy it, then your name is on it, and it will be on your insurance. However, your daughter can be put on the insurance record as the primary driver. Then you and your daughter can work out some sort of payment arrangements if need be. Good Luck. |

You can buy the car and have it registered in your name.
As your daughter will be the Main Driver the Insurance must be in her name and you must be added as a named driver if you intend to drive it at all.

if you buy it it's yours if your not driving it you don't have to be on the insurance but the policy will ask who the registered keeper is and you will have to explain |
