My deceased husband has left a hyundai santro car. The outstanding loan on it has been cleared and the hypothecation papers have also been released on my name. I am living in chennai but the car has been registered in his name in kerala. Please tell me how I can get that changed to my name and what documents I will require for that. Will I have to go personally to kerala or is it ok to get it done through some agent if possible.

You will probably have to take a death certificate, the vehicle registration and proof that you are your husbands current wife and heir and his will to Kerala to get the registration changed into your name. You may be able to do the change of registration at the chennai vehicle registration department but you will need to call them and ask them.

Sorry for your loss! I would think you only need a certificate of death and the current registration. I don't know about maybe faxing these
documents to your DMV, but surely you can handle this at a local office. Good luck! |
