Do a google search for truck schools in St. Petersburg, FL You'll find a bunch of them. I can't recommend any particular one, as I don't know any of their grads. There are many schools that offer 3-4 week courses. That sounds great as you will be out making money sooner, but I recommend the longest school you can find.
What you'll need: Clean motor vehicle/criminal record, at least 21 years old, be able to pass a drug screen (will receive randoms periodically in the trucking industry, so drugs are NOT an option!) And pass DOT physical.
There is much more to being a truck driver than being able to shift and back a truck. I spent years as the lead instructor at an accredited school in Vegas and I taught the students in the classroom for 10 weeks BEFORE they got behind the steering wheel. They learned everything from safety to how things worked on the truck to map reading, trip planning, Federal Regulations, log book requirements, etc.
Even as a company driver, you must be 90% business person and 10% driver. |
