I was driving my neighbros car and it broke down. Can she make me responsible for getting it fixed.?

only way she can is if she can prove you actually did something to cause it to break down, other than that it was just bad chance that it broke down on you and not her, she can take you to small claims court but if you didn't drive the car bad then she won't win, it was just bad timing and bad luck on you, if she wa diving it it would have broke down on her, she just wants to get it fixed for free thats all

If the reason it broke down is something you did, or if you put on a lot of miles that increased wear and tear, yes. If you just borrowed it for the afternoon and did nothing wrong, then no. The attorney will cost more than the repair.

It depends on what went wrong. If you drove over something and blew out a tire for instance, then you should want to fix it for her. Do you know what the problem is? Did she give you an estimate from a mechanic showing the problem and potential repair costs? I don't know what kind of person your neighbor is but to cover yourself in this, I would suggest that you ask her to take the car to a mechanic you trust for an estimate. If the problem is related to negligence or abuse on your part then you'll probably end up paying if she sues you, and perhaps paying for her attorney costs as well. If the problem is routine maintenance then she shouldn't expect you to pay. An estimate from a mechanic is usually free but if you have to pay $20-50 then I would say it's still worth it. Good luck.

It depends. If you abused the car and that's what caused it to break down, then I would say you are responsible. If it just broke down and you just happened to be the one behind the wheel, then no. Part of the responsibilities of car ownership is maintenance and repairs.

It is my Understanding that when you borrow ANYTHING from someone It is your Moral duty to bring It back in the same shape as when you took It. At times we get screwed but In general It works fine. In so saying It is your responsibility to have the problem fixed. It will turn out, If lawyers are called, that you will 1) end up paying & 2) losing a neighbor's friendship. So, you make the call

It depends on what broke, but yes she can. When you borrow a car you are taking a chance and you have the responsibility to make sure what u are borrowing is in good shape. If you trusted that the car would be road worthy, then your neighbor trusted that you would bring it back in the same shape you took it. Most ppl that i know would only lend a car that isn't worth a lot so it is implied that if anything happens to the car it is no big deal. but that isn't a defense. I do think it depends on what broke though, for example if the radiator hoses breaks you have to fix it before driving the car any further.a few bucks. if u don't and you overheat the engine, then y may have to replace a engine, which could cost thousands.

I'm sorry this makes no sense. You borrowed your neighbor's car and while you were driving because of mechanical problems it broke down. How is that your fault? Unless you'd had the car for months and had driven it thousands of miles.

Usually drivers are responsible for anything that happens in your case the car broke down and they have all rights to blame you for the cause, if your is nice you can split the damage otherwise she can sue you for the problem.

yes. she may have given you permission to use it and while you used it, it broke down. it was in your responibility and even tho you didnt actually break it it was still in your hands
