i was in an accident today. My car was hit by those huge cargo trucks that was going really so. it hit the headlight of my car , but the truck didn't get much damage ( stratch or 2)
the police came and gave us a police report.
the truck was an out of state truck.
do i need to report to my insurance if the other driver didn't?
will i get in any trouble if i don't report it?

no only legality is to the state legal body when an excess of 500$ in dmamge. Since you and the other person are NOT making a claim for repair then no you do not. |

A month ago I rear-ended someone by accident and had considerable damage to my car (the other person didn't have as much damage). As soon as I got home, we called our insurance. Turned out we had collision insurance and they were able to fix my car. I only had to pay a deductible, and the insurance covered the rest.
So I suggest you contact your insurance company ASAP if you have damage. You may have collision insurance as well. If it's your first accident, they may also have a forgiveness policy. Good luck. |

It depends on your state; all have legal requirements that you report if the damage amount is over a certain limit. (For example, in Oregon it's $1500, but in California its $750.) Check the DMV for your state. Also, you only have 72 hours to report it.
It may be in your best interest to report it; you never know if the truck driver is going to sue you. You can't be sure they're not going to report it. |

If he did not report it, you do not need to.
If it does get reported both insurance rates go up. |

i wouldn't report it. this stuff has happened to me too and i didn't report if it was minor and the other person didn't report. if you do, your insurance will sky rocket. let it go |

I don't believe you are required to notify your insurance company unless you are filing a claim. The main thing is the accident was reported to the police. |

You don't have to report anything to them, but if a police report was filed then they will probably learn about it soon enough. You don't have to file a claim though. You never have to even talk with your insurance company. |

Not if they don't either. If the truck reports it then yes. But I have had this happen before where I didn't report it until the other party did because there was no damage done to my vehicle and I WASN'T at fault so I didn't feel the need until the other person (the rental car companies claim department) tried to come after me for the damages. I would just report it tho. Don't you want your car fixed? Isn't that the purpose of having insurance? Well partially of course... but thats what it is there for. I know you don't want your rates to go up but I don't know how you are ok driving a wreck. Just report it. Good luck. |

If the police wrote a ticket or cited someone, the insurance will find out. But don't say anything unless they ask. you will just have to fix your car out of pocket. |
