If it's brand new from a dealer, I had 7 days free cover (from Ford) - but check with the dealer before buying.
Otherwise if it's a second hand then get insurance before buying. |

Buy your insurance before hand and get it to start on the day you collect the car. |

Yeah as welsh lad said, most dealers do 7 day free insurance. My ford was brand new and had 7 days free, though my partner's peugeot was 4 years old n we still got peugeot's 7 day free insurance on that too. Ask the dealer - if buying private, insure it now....while your online! |

You get it taxed and insured before you move it or you load it on a transporter otherwise you will be doing a criminal act |

If you buy it from a dealer, he can do insurance for you and issue a cover note. if it is a private sale then you have to leave it until you have cover. |

If I'm interested in a car, I go test drive it, if I like it, I know I can go buy it, pay cash, and call my insurers, give the registration number (I do this before I part with the cash, they can tell me if the car is legitimate, or if it is on any sort of insurance write-off list) and then they can cover me immediately. Failing that, you can use a computer to obtain cover immediately through your insurers' web-site.
There are NO excuses for driving uninsured, which is why most police-forces are crushing the cars of the uninsured immediately, as well as your day in court, where you WILL be banned and fined, in addition to the loss of the car!
Never drive a car without insurance cover, for THAT vehicle. |

you need to buy insurance before you collect, or you can get someone else to drive it to your house who has an insurance policy which allows them to drive any other car (which they do not own) under 3rd party insurance. unless you arent planning on using the car right away, you should really buy insurance yourself first. also, if you buy off ebay you get a couple of days cover from norwich union (i think, you certainly used to anyway) |

Don't get a friend to drive it home as suggested.
Most insurance policy's carry the statement telling the policy holder "that they can drive any car that is not insured by them and not owned by them" but, and it is a big BUT the car in question must be legal i.e. taxed, M.O.T. and insured by the owner also they will only be insured Third Party or even worse the basic Traffic Act cover, the only get out is if the friend has got a insurance policy that clearly states that he can drive any car, very few people have this type of policy because they are very expensive. |

Get a friend who has comprehensive insurance to drive it home for you, they will have 3rd party cover for any vehicle not owned by themselves via their comprehensive policy on their own car |
