You can always be sued.
People who file law suits don't really need a good reason or a logical course of action. All it takes is someone who is willing to file the complaint. Most of the time, they're looking for the deepest pocket, which is usually the insurance company, and hoping for an out-of-court settlement, but they'll include your name in the complaint too, just for the shotgun effect.

Yes, if the damage exceeds their coverage. Most ins companies will not pay for any damage done to a persons car that is not on the policy. They can put a judgement against you and anything you rightfully own until its paid off. |

Yep, the vehicle is insured and covers all authroized drvers. You both can be sued.
However, may policies will cover you if you are driving someone else's vehicle, up to the limits of your coverage. This is in addition to the owner's coverage, which is normally primary.
In the situation you mention, although you both could be sued, you'll have additional coverage to protect you as well. |

No, you should not be sued. This happened to me last year. My sister borrowed my car and got into a big accident. Thankfully she had very little damage to her body. The car was a total reck. I got a new vehicle. I live in Montreal Canada. Remember that rules vary from province to province parish to parish or state to state. Check the rules of where to live before you take any unnecessary chances. |

Can I make a suggestion? This is for everybody, not just the asker: Never ever ever ever EVER loan your car to ANYBODY unless you absolutely have to!!! I have a friend who has wrecked two vehicles that didn't belong to her and the owner's had to deal with all the insurance ramifications that came with those accidents. Not a good situation to be in.
Just remember, tickets and violations follow the driver. Insurance follows the car. So if you let someone borrow your car and they wreck it and it's their fault, they have a ticket to deal with and you have a damaged vehicle and possible inflated insurance rates to deal with. |
