You did not have to fix the first dent with the money you received. However, if the second dent is on the same part then the insurance adjuster will reduce the claim for the new dent by the amount it would take to fix the old dent. If the old dent is somewhere else on the car then it depends on how big it is whether it could lower the time value of the car below the cost of the current repair or not.
I had something like that happen to me. My car had two other dents that were in the rear bumper (backed into a post) and rear door (scrape like dent), they did not affect the estimate of a racoon collision damage in the front, however some normally invisible scrapes on the underside of the front plastic spoiler caused a $100 reduction in the claim paid for that repair, what a bummer ! |

They will not penalize you for not spending the money on the dent. If the "next" dent costs less to fix than the value of the car, then they will just pay to fix it.
The dent may take away the value of the car if it is a total loss (if you wrap it around a tree, for example), but it would have to be a pretty big one. Insurance companies utilize a lot of databases and publications to estimate replacement value, so they don't get too wrapped up in the details of a car's condition, sticking to "like new," "clean," "needs minor work," etc. |

The old damage is deducted from the Actual Cash Value if the vehicle is totaled. If the vehicle was not totaled, the old damage is deducted from the new appraisal amount. |
