You would need to be insured but if your dad just puts you, or general other people on for third party insurance it shouldn't cost much.

Your dad would need to add you to the insurance as a provisional insurance.

It usually costs very little to add someone on, although if you were to have an accident while learning you would need to pay a lot towards the cost of the repairs before the insurance company would helps out (this is called the excess).

Your dad can either pay the extra as a one-off payment, or could have it added to his monthly direct debit.

EDIT: Someone has said you don't need insurance. This is wrong - just in case you were wondering!!

you can drive your dads car even in his name, just make sure the insurance company he's with is notified so to insure you to drive the car as well then you'll be fine and as its in your dads name so long as his license isn't very 'unclean' it shouldnt cost you a lot

within 30 days of being licensed, in most states, you need to be added. your da needs to call his agent and have them verify this! it can be anywhere from $500 to $2500 to add you!

Depends, If you have a lerners permit, and your parent is in the car with you, then no you don't need car insurance.

The insurance goes with the car. Not with the driver. Same way as letting borrow your aunt or uncle the car, because they need a truck....you don't need to call the insurance and add them too. As long as your parent is in the car, your fine. I would ask your teacher, then your Insurance Agent.

If you dad drives with you, then no you don't need insurance, but you need to have his licence with him, your provis with you and a L plate on the front and back fo your car. You can either buy sticky ones or magnetic ones. I would recommend magnetic ones stuck down with some sticky tape :)
