If a buy a car without tax, would I be able to buy insurance and then tax the same day?

Basically, I want to buy a car and it has no road tax. If I buy the car and get insurance the same day would I be able to buy road tax, surely insurance companies would e-mail you with the details you need to enable you to buy tax from the post office, or even online.

you need an actual cover note, not a printed copy you would get by fax or email. you could get a cover note from a broker in your town if you have any. you could then tax the car.

Once you have sorted out your insurance and providing you have a current MOT you can tax your car online. You can only do it at the post office if you have an insurance cover note or certificate.

No you need the certificate of insurance emails and schedules will not do.
Yo will also need to go to a DVLA local office if the car has been without tax for more than a month and then there is the question as to where has it been during that time be sure that you get the registration document signed with the correct date of sale or there will be a no sorn declared and you could be liable for back tax.
You will also need a valid MOT if required in order to tax the car.
You can not tax a car on line unless you have already got valid insurance declared and they can identify the policy.
The new style MOT will also be there and you need the registration document to take the details off.

All documents are inter dependant to ensure that everyone has them

hi you should be ok as long as you get insurance you will have to make sure the car is in your name on the log book as well once you have insurance you should be able to apply on line for the tax or when you get your insurance cover note or policy you can take it to a post office to get your car taxed

You can take out insurance immediately but post offices will need official documents to be able to tax it and you can only do it online if you are the registered keeper which you wont be until you get the v5 back.
If you're buying it from a dealer they can normally arrange that with the dealers insurance policy

Depends on the insurance company really. Some are better than others!

If you explain your situation, most insurers will arrange to either fax, or if they have the facility, email you a certificate of motor insurance. You do have to sign a form 1st usually but if you do this all on the same day you shouldn't have a problem!

in Texas, you have to have insurance before you go to the tax office to get tags and then they tag YOU for any tax due

No, I don't think so but if u insure the car online or by phone, you should receive the paper work the next day. But now, as it is possible to tax online, you never now. call the dvla, they should confirm this.

Hi, you need an insurance certificate to get your tax, but.....if you know anyone who has "traders insurance" policy (or insured to drive anything) then they can tax the vehicle for you on their insurance! providing you have the log book (V5) or at least the green part.

You would need to tax it at a post office. You must have the "new keeper" tear-off portion of the registration document the seller should have given you, a paper certificate of insurance or cover note (means you will have to get cover from a high street broker) and the MOT if relevant. There is an extra form you need to get from the post office to fill in. You won't be able to do it on line for a few days until the owner details and insurance database have been updated.

Are you in the UK? I paid for my UK road tax online recently, and they were able to check from their databases if it was already insured and MOT'd. However, I am not sure if the databases are updated on the same day so it may not work for you.
When we bought our car seven years ago, it had no road tax. The vendor delivered it. If you drive without a tax disc and the police spot you, obviously you are in trouble. But apparently if you drive with an old tax disc, hoping the police won't notice, and they do, it is even worse than no tax disc at all.
Perhaps you could get the vendor, or someone with a suitable car-carrying vehicle, to deliver it for you?

the insurance company should fax through your details if you ask them to - never heard of them emailing them though

i dont think so, because you need tha actual certificate as proof.
