I think the people who say you cannot drive the car to an MOT station ourght to get their facts right before answering.
Book your car in for the test and specify a time ie. 9.00am
then take the car on the most direct route from it's location to the testing station.
You would not need to have tax or MOT to do this (after all you cannot tax the vehicle without an MOT cert.)
Your insurance will cover you |

You are allowed to drive to and from a MOT test centre or a place of repair for MOT repairs listed on a fail sheet as long as you have booked an appointment. |

i thought it is legal to drive a car to a pre-arranged m.o.t. test if the certificate has run out. i guess you sent in a s.o.r.n. to d.v.l.a?
your insurance company might not be happy though.
ask your garage - they might collect it.
good luck. |

Most of the answers here are, with respect, incorrect.
Although an MOT certificate is indeed normally required, you can drive the car on the road to take it to an MOT station for testing, and nothing else, though not that I'd reccomend doing this if the brakes are scaring you...
If you feel it's not mechinically in a fit state to drive safely on the road, get it trasported on the back of a tow-truck. |

It is possible to drive it.
It is unlawful to do so.
You pay your money.
You make your choice. |

If you've booked it into a nearby test centre you can drive it there to be tested - but that's all. |

If it has not got an mot the it is not safe to drive |

To confirm, you are allowed to drive to a pre-booked MoT test. You're required to take a direct route, i.e. no stopping off to do the shopping. Simple as that. |

Only drive to mot centre. Anywhere else would be a violation. |

Yes as long as you drive straight to the MOT test centre.
I'm lucky with my nearest MOT test centre, it's up the road - a 2 min walk. Go to your nearest centre. |

Yes, you're allowed to drive it to an MOT centre, once. If you go to the MOT centre, or somewhere else, it's a crime and you will be punished. |

Only if you have made a pre booking. If the bill stop you and you have not made the appointment they will sting you and the sneaky ones might even contact your insurer's. BEWARE!!! |

Geez, they're cheaper than california smog tests. Just do it. |

If you ring the mot station before you set off and they can vouch for you that you were only taking your car to the testing station you will be OK . |

No it is not ok |

if your car is over three years old you need an M O T if under you do not [thought you had to produce M O T certificate to purchase tax disc] |
|

xtina

how did you wangle that one? i thought you had to have a valid mot before you could get tax and insurance, if you have not got an mot certificate you should not be on the road, your car is not road worthy without it, and if you get pulled over you are in trouble, you could be driving a death trap, for yourself and for other people, get it sorted. |
