If the log book isn't there -just walk away.

It might be innocent but it's not worth the risk when you later find you have lost your money and the car you thought was yours is returned to it's rightful owner.

You mean log book. It depends on the car. If it's an older car then log books do go missing. and you can apply for a new one though the DVLA. if the car is not so old, then be careful, there no proof the said seller actually owns the car, and it could be stolen. I'd say walk away. there always more cars out there, that you can bye with peace of mind.

In line with most other answers my advice is walk away.

There are plenty more cars out there.

I bought my last car on ebay, got a good car at a good price.

Why hasn't he got a log book for a car he owns. If he owns it.

If he genuinely owns the car he should send off for a replacement V5 to the DVLA. If you are thinking of buying it ....Do not take the car and do not hand over the money until he has this document. It can take up to 6 weeks i think but at least you'll know its all legal.

The car maybe sorn if he really has lost the book but this does need renewing for every new owner.. so you would also need to do that.

Is car must be very valuable in other ways huh??!!

Don't buy it unless they have the log book. If your really set on it then go to the AA or DVLA and get them to do a check on it that way they will tell you if its stolen or been written off etc. Just remember if you do buy it but don't get it checked out you will be found guilty of handling stolen property, which will give you at least a fine, probably more than what the cars worth.
