I was told that in Ohio if a deer hits you that the state has to pay for the damage done to your vehiccle.

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. Why should tax payers write the check for someone that doesn't pay attention to the road? How is the state supposed to control what wild animals do? |

At first I thought this was a joke but I think you are serious about it.
Think about it, why would the state pay for the damages to your car caused by a wild animal?? It just doesn't make any sense.
They would not pay the damages. Turn it in to your insurance. Hitting an animal is a comprehensive claim, not a collision claim as someone else said. |

I don't know about OH, but in NE even if the deer hits your car, it's still your problem to fix.
I had a deer run into the side of my car when I was going 60mph down the highway. I got a big dent in the passenger doors and the rear passenger side fender. It is still classified as you hitting a deer. |

That would surprise me very much if they did.In Texas the state does not pay for that and if you hit a cattle the owner can force you to pay for the value of his livestock. |
