Depends on state. Some states - Louisiana for example - has a no pay, no play law. It states that if you are uninsured you can not make a claim for damages against someone else up to a certain $ amount. But most states it does not make a difference. You will submit a claim on the other persons insurance and they will fix your car. With regards to the law the police may ticket you and then you may be in trouble. If you're in a "no pay, no play" state, you get nothing.
In most at-fault states you're entitled to compensation for any personal injuries, but nothing on your car itself, loss of income, or pain and suffering.
