If i bought a car as a present for someone, and the log book was registered in my name?

can that person have the car insured in their own name ONLY without having my name on the insurance

Yes, as the user. You should, however, transfer it out of your name or else you'll be receiving the parking tickets and so on . . .
When you think about it, the insurance is to cover THAT person driving THAT car. That's what it's all about. |

Not sure. But if you bought a car for someone, you should register it in their name. Why don't you do that? Otherwise, the car is yours, but you allow that person to use it |

Yes but they will have to declare that the car is not in their name on the insurance policy. The logbook doesn't neccasarily mean you own the car. Although you do. |

as the owner of the car, you will hold the reciept for it.. that makes you the owner.. the person you give the car to is the registered keeper, and their name must go on the log book.[this will also keep you clear of any problems arising from parking or speeding tickets..
the insurance is a separate issue, the 'insured' will be the one to drive the vehicle. your name dos'nt come into it..
legally you are just the owner.. everything else is to do with the registered keeper.. |

Think you can still get points and parking fines if still in your name! |

Yes. Why are you keeping it in your name because you will be liable for parking fines and speeding convictions unless you know who is responsible |

ofcourse it is ok |

Yes but the insurance premium could be slightly higher as they are not the registered keeper, you will be able to update the log book at anytime though to the person you are buying it for name

Yes. The RK (registered keeper) does not have to be the insured.
However, all correspondence regarding the car (tax, traffic & parking fines etc) will come to the RK first and it will be upto the RK to inform whichever authority of who the driver was. |

Yes, the registered owner is not necessarily the registered keeper |

Hello
Yes the only stipulation is that the policy holder must be the main driver.
Ie the policy is not in your name if that would make it cheaper.

If the car is financed then your name must be on the insurance to protect the car in case of damage, as the loan is in your name, if in fact there is a financed situation, otherwise the insurance can be in anyones name, i imagine you will be deeding the car over to the new owner. Otherwise yes you must be on the insurance you are owner of the car. |

only the owner of a car must have insurance. if your friend gets insurance he or she is insuring himself while driving a vehicle. you cannot remove your insurance coverage without taking your name off the vehicle because you are responsible for it. |
