my friend had a car accident which was the other persons fault and her insurance company is making her pay her own excess.Is that right?

Initially yes, but your insurance should be claiming all costs from the 3rd parties insurance company and will then refund you the excess. |

Yes it is right! You pay the excess THEN claim it back from the other driver as an uninsured loss. |

Yes but it forms part of her claim against the other driver. Get her to talk to the insurance company because they may claim on her behalf
or she may have to claim herself. it wil depend if she has legal protection or the terms of the insurance. |

You pay the excess to get the car fixed at their garage they recommended, they give you a courtsey car (if it's in your policy) and you get the excess back from the other party, which your insurance company sorts out. |

I think that is wrong for ordinarily, when one party acknowledges that it is his/her fault, that party's insurers covers the other party's excess. Hopefully, your friend's insurers will fight her corner. |

Need to check the small print on the policy.
Insurance Companies will try and get out of paying / applying excess charges / any way to make some extra.
Normally you should not have to pay if other side 100% to blame. Perhaps your friend was held to be partly responsible.
Never easy to sort out blame in these sort of incidents! |

If the one at fault has no insurance, then the owner's insurance kicks in.
Yes, the deductible applies and the owner has to pay that.
The one at fault can be sued if they have anything of value. |
