Ian W is right - assuming that that the test you passed last year was a normal car test?!! (catergory B on your licence)
If this is so, your Maximum Authorised Mass of your vehicle is 3,500 kgs (just to clear up any differences between tons and tonnes!!)
You CAN tow a trailer by the way - up to 750kgs. If the trailer is OVER 750kgs THEN you have to take a separate test (catergory B+E on your licence) |

In the UK up to a total train weight of 3.5 tons, so if you have a Rangerover, that's OK. Put a big caravan or horse trailer with a couple of horses in, that would be a nono. |

As other posters have said the maximum weight vehicle you can drive is 3.5 tonnes. Dave is incorrect as to towing. You must take a further test to tow any trailer under the new regs, whether braked or not. - This includes towing "dollies", camping trailers, caravans etc & cars!! |

on a category 'B' you can drive Cars with and without trailers,
as below
Motor vehicles with a MAM not exceeding 3500kg having not more than eight passenger seats with a trailer up to 750kg. Combinations of towing vehicles in category B and a trailer, where the MAM of the combination does not exceed 3500kg and the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle |

Up to 3.5 tonnes GVW, but you can't tow a trailer - there's now a seperate test for that.
Also with the weight limit, be aware that some vans have different weights; ie, you can get a 2.8 tonne Ford Transit, you can also get a 3.8 tonne model. Obviously, you could drive one, but not the other. |
