Yes, but he'd have to be declared as a driver too, just let your insurance know about him.

Both names need to be insured on the car or you will have a huge problem if you get in a wreck and the one not listed is driving, your insurance company can deny you any money to fix it or the other car, and will raise you insurance like crazy.

Insurance companies generally require all residents of the same household who drive the car to be on the policy. Some even require all licensed drivers in the household to be on the policy, even if they do not all drive the car.

This is not a good idea. I know that you think you're soooooo in love right now, but what would happen, say 6 months from now, and the two of you break up? Who gets the car? Who gets stuck making the payments? If you need a car buy it separately, not jointly while you're both just a dating couple. Never title a vehicle in both your names until you have that ring on your finger, and a more secure relationship, if you get what I mean.

To answer your question, yes you could do that. To insure it in your name the car would have to be titled in your name with him listed on the policy as an authorized driver. If you have concerns about your boyfriend being stopped by the police why would you let him drive YOUR car. You will be financially responsible for anything he did while driving the car. If he gets parking tickets, they're on YOUR car. If he is caught with a little "weed" in the car, it's YOUR car that gets impounded. Think this one over real hard before you do it.

I'll keep it simple. Don't do this. There have been countless horror stories resulting from situations like this. Either you buy it or he buys it. Do not get it jointly.

Don't enter into a purchase arrangement with another party unless it's a legal spouse. This will lead to difficult financial problems if you break up. At least if you're married a judge can handle the disposition of community property, it's not that way if you're not married.
