ok, a lot of these people are close but no cigar. DO NOT report it as a struck animal if you did not strike an animal. That is insurance fraud, and that is a FELONY, and they CAN figure out that it was not an animal. all they need to do is send someone out and find that out. Trust me, it is not worth the risk, that person got lucky, I cannot even believe they are talking about it online. But, there is some hope, yes, it is under collision but no, that does not mean you are screwed. this depends on what state you are in. thankfully, a hit and run will fall under your loss ratio as a no-fault accident so it really shouldn't affect your rates, but if the damage isn't that bad, it may be in your best interest just to take care of it yourself. also, it is true about the uninsured motorist...unfortunately, there is usually typically a $200 (approximately) deductible that would still apply, and filing an uninsured motorist claim DOES require a police report. otherwise, if you are just filing a colllision, it does not necessarily require one. it just helps. unfortunately, it can only be put under comprehensive if it was vandalism, but you would still need to prove that. also, some personal policies allow for a deductible to be waived if you are not at fault, and if this is in michigan or florida (or some other type of no-fault law state) you just need to get a police report showing that it was a hit & run and you can have your deductible waived. please do the right thing...it's not worth jail time. (also, a side note...you wonder why insurance rates are so high? it's because people like that comit insurance fraud and drive the cost of claims up....blame them for your high rates...)

No, it's collision. And yes, that means you're getting screwed over. Been there.

It's physical damage; your company might pay for it out of comp or collision...depends on the claims adjustor and insurance company. Regardless, you'll pay a deductible. It's not going to qualify for uninsured motorist coverage; that coverage is to cover you and your passengers from bodily injury if you're involved in an accident with a uninsured driver.

Yes, your insurance will have to cover it unless there was a witness to the accident and someone took down a license number and you could track the driver that way.

it falls on collision but if you have broad end collision coverage dont worry your not resposible for the deductable other then that your screwed get out your check book..Good Luck

If you haven't reported it yet, report is as a struck animal.

when I was 17 I had a hit and run on the street. My Insurance agent told me it wasn't covered (I had full coverage). He asked me if I hit a deer. I said no. He said "Call me back when you hit one". I got the message and called him back and told him I had hit a deer. I was then able to make a claim.
