If my mate was driving my car and got flashed by a camera what would happen?

would he get the points or? he is fully comp so would he be even allowed to drive my car?

a) He gets the speeding points, you as the registered keeper will get a letter from Her Majesty's finest asking you who was driving. You tell them, they then write to him and say 'You're nicked son... cough up a fine and here's some points for your licence'.
If he's a mate one would hope he'd say 'it's a fair cop' and not 'not me guv' which would of course cause you lots of hassle.... you could get into signing a log etc, but frankly why lend your motor to someone you can't trust.

b) It's usual for fully comp to give you 3rd party cover on other vehicles so chances are it would be legal... but if he has a prang any damage to your car wouldn't be covered, so he'd have to cough up (could be a lot if it's a write off) and who needs that aggro between mates.

If you have fully comp call your insurance co and ask how much it would cost to have him added as an additional driver.... unless he's a lot worse driver than you (in which case again... why would you lend him your wheels) it probably won't cost very much, after all only one person can drive it at a time.
I've added people to mine (a not cheap to insure SAAB) for a month and it only cost a tenner... well worth it.

The registered owner of the car (you) would be sent a letter detailing the offence (where, when etc).

Then in that form you have the chance to inform them that someone else was driving the car.

If you do not do that then you get the points plus the fine.

Stephanie
you will have to contest it and state he was driving the car! He will then get the points.
you will have to check his policy to see if he will be insured to drive your car - this is a common misconception people make. If you are fully copm it doesnt mean you are automatically entitled to drive someone elses car.....

own up and pay up etc.

Whether or not he is insured to drive your car would depend on the wording of his fully comp policy.

As regards the motoring offence that he got flashed for you as the registered keeper would be written to and asked who was driving.

If you give the information the points and fine will be heading to your friend. If you don't you will be prosecuted for failing to give information to Police and get a fine and points on your licence.

If you are found to be lying about who was driving you will probably be prosecuted for attempting to pervert the course of justice and looking at a possible custodial sentance.

Your mate need pick up the tap and get the points on his licence, if not it will come to you mate, i.e you will get the letter, then he has to say he was driving the vehicle and show his insurance and pay the fine and the points will be on his licence.

You will get the letter in saying youve been caught, then you send it back once you've filled in the details about who was driving the vehicle at the time.

He'll get the £60.00 fine and the 3 points.

If he is fully comp, he is probably okay to drive your car but under third party only it is of course your responsibility to check this before you lend him the car, so technically you may both get done if his insurance does not cover him, or your policy excludes him.

If he got flashed, the fine and points are his, not yours. You will receive the notification though, not him, as you are the registered keeper. There is a section on the notification for you to complete if you were not the driver at the time, but you will have to give his details or risk prosecution. If he then contests it, they will probably have photographic evidence that will rule you out.

If he has your permission to drive the car and he is legal to drive then he can take the rap. When you receive your notification in the post return it stating who was driving at the time.

If you say so...

You will get the letter and you will get the points unless he states it was him driving at the time of offence.

it depends on the camera that caught him, not all cameras actually have the facial recognition system yet so if you say someone else was drivng and they check the photo and it wasn you then all is good, if the camara was not one that is capable of photoing the driver then it will come back to the registered driver. they did do it at one point where if they could not prove one way or the other then it was just left but because of the thausands and thausands of reps in company cars being caught and the fines never getting paid they abolished that and decided who ever was the registered keeper would have to foot the bill. im sure it is possible to have it transfered to him if he is willing to take the blame but if he isnt then not alot can be done. yes if he has fully comp insurance and is over 21 he should be covered 3rd party only on any car that he has permission to use and is road legal, in many cases there also needs to be an insurance policy on that vehicle in the owners name too so if you had the car off the road and canceld the insurance it is possible that he wasn actually covered but that depends on his own policy
