I had just bought a car not 2 days ago and when I bought it I didnt realize that it had the date of sale was already filled out and the date is a year and and month old so what im asking is am I going to be charged for two different registration amounts or not?

ok and also if the mileage is different on the title than on the acuale cars mileage like 2 or 3 thousand more than the title has and it has a year and a month time span where they didnt register it can mess anything up?

In California:
If there is an error on the title, then fill out an error statement REG 101 and explain the error. This form can explain any error, crossout, white out, initials (DMV hates initials on titles) or erasures. The seller probably was going to sell it last year, and changed his mind. Hence the wrong date. No big deal.
If the car was not registered last year, and you bought the car with expired registration, then yes, you need to bring the registration current. The DMV doesn't care whose fault it is, they want their money for each year. The seller should have sold the car with current tags, but it's a buyer beware world. And your responsibility now.
The odometer disclosure is what the miles were at the time of sale, not at the time the title was printed. So ignor the printed odometer reading on the title and just pay attention to the hand written odometer reading that the seller and buyer agree on. Look at the cars odometer. Is it close to whats been hand written on the transfer info? That's for the buyers protection that seller and buyer agree on the odometer disclosure.
Take the title to the DMV or AAA Auto Club to finish the transfer within 10 days of purchase. |
