What can you do, any way to make the dealership liable or that not even an option? The car is used.

If you bought the car "as is", you're stuck with a lemon.
If you bought the car with stipulations regarding it's condition
then the dealer is responsible.
Right now, the best advice is to read the contract you signed
and the warranties that come with the purchase. |

The seller is responsible for smog no matter who sold it.Either they fix it or give you your money back.AS-IS does not cover smog problems. |

if u live in an emissions state and bought the car in an emissions state and the car is new enough to have emissions equipment, they are liable to make it pass emissions or replace it. that is the law unless its a $300 piece of junk and the receipt says "as is".
u have a responsibilty as the buyer in an emissions state to ask before signing anything to see a copy of the vehicle inspection...did u do that?
contact your states attorney general and they can advise your next move.
