If you have a crash does youir insurance go up by loads?

I had a crash last week the car is written off I was a named driver on my husbands insurance ( He had 10 years no claims) I was just wondering that when I get a new car will the insurance be sky high and will my husband have lost his 10 years no claims?

Also we have another car insured at the same company We have decided that when we do get a new car that I will be insured on that one and he will just be insured on the other on will my accident make his insurance higher on the other car?

(ANS) I can only talk from my own experience here (and what I think) OK!! the positives are a) your were a named driver on the insurance policy and that means your insurance will cover your claim (loss) b) That your husband's & your policy has 10 years no! claims discount.

**How your husbands No! claims discount might be affected depends upon weather it was a "Protected" No! claims discount or not?

MY GUESS!!
Once you have a new vehicle then YES! you can almost certainly expect your insurance premiums to go up. NOT necessarily sky high though and not necessarily permanently either, you may find that they go up for say 12mths and if you pay them (rather than move to a different company) then once the policy comes up for renewal they go down once again. This is what happened in my case.

**YES! you may find that your no claims discount is docked by say 2 years if its NOT protected. If on the other hand the No! claims "was protected" then the accident should NOT affected the no! claims level at all.

**These things are dependent on the insurer you have your policy with, it seems to vary a good deal from company to company. And obviously on a case by case situation.

If it was your fault your husband will lose part or all of his no claims bonus, unless has has extra protection on his no claims

It will go up the next time you renew for your husbands policy,the best idea is to shop around ensuring you get the best price,insurers will give a discount for new policy holders,look on the Internet,starting now will give you an idea of the price you will pay giving you as much value has possible

yep it will be.. the way it works is as tho he's insuring a car again for the 1st time. u should check out sites like confused.com to see what sorta prices u can get

excess... no claims... but whats the point in having it if you do not use it.
It is based on what if.... with fear to drive it get it bud.

check his policy he might have protected no claims bonus,if not make sure and take it out next time it doesnt cost that much and at least if anything did happen again you would be covered properly.?
