If you hit a deer on a county/state road, is there a way to get them to pay for the damage to the veheicle?

A deer caused me to crash and lay my motorcycle down on a back road. we had to take these back roads due to a bride being out and under construction for about 6 months now. Is there any way to get the county or state to pay for the damage to my motorcycle since I only had basic liability on my motorcycle.
Additional Details
I was injured and had about 4k in medical bills, missed a month of work. I was told that they are considered state property why I was curious.. and full coverance insurance was 3k a year so yes it is.

Your kidding right?

So let me get this straight. Its the states fault? The state should have to put little shock collars on all the deers that shock them every time they enter a road?

Again, only in America do people act like you and try to blam everyone for their accidents. haha.. try to sue the county/state.. funny.

This is why comprehensive and first party medical coverage is SO important.

Sorry buddy... your living in a dream world if you think anyone but yourself and your insuarnce are paying.

When you purchased insurance, they gave you a choice as to what coverage you wanted, and you chose to not take collision, which would have paid for your losses. Why would the state or the city or the county, or anyone else be responsible for your choices? Deer are not insured, neither are trees along the road, so if you have blown a tire and hit a tree, that wouldn't be covered either without collision.

If you want to be covered for such things for any future situations you might find yourself in, get with your agent and add some things to insurance. But for this one, the simple answer is "No, the state or county is not responsible for the bridge being out, nor for your insurance choices, and will not pay for your damages."

So you want that county or state to pay for someones mistake and isnt careful and crashes?

sensible_man
No, thats why they put up the deer crossing signs. Now, knowing that there are frivolous lawsuits being won everyday, you may sue the deer if he crossed anywhere but at the signs. Could be worth a couple "bucks".

Basic Liability Insurance was Your Choise.

Some insurance companies will cover this under the comprehensive part of your contract. Ask your agent.

nope, you were dumb enough or cheap enough to only get basic insurance, that's your problem. full coverage ain't that expensive for a year, especially compared to a V6 sedan.

molly
can the state control where the deer go? what a whiner.

No that one's on you. That's the reason you carry full coverage on a bike. It's not THAT expensive for a year.

UNFORTUNATELY YOU CAN NOT GET THEM TO PAY FOR ANYTHING.

In daylight hours, the watchful motorist can often see an animal at the side of the road, or on the road, soon enough to avoid a collision. In darkness, however, motorists frequently do not see an animal until it is too close to avoid.

For this reason, and because many animals are most active during the evening and early morning hours, 90 percent of deer-vehicle collisions happen between dusk and dawn.

To reduce collisions between vehicles and animals, agencies responsible for highways are using several preventive measures-- including signs, fences, underpasses, diversionary feeding areas, expanded hunting seasons, and roadside reflectors.

Motorists themselves are trying whistles and other noises to warn animals of an approaching vehicle.
