Is it illegal if you still have your old state's license? Also, if anyone from Ny is reading this, do you have to take the written test over again before getting a ny license?

you can keep your old one until it expires but then you will have to go through a long process to get a NY state license.Change it A.S.A.P because if you get a ticket they are gonna fine you harder thinking you are not a resident.You have to have a NY state license to have NY state plates also.IF your license expires and you try to get one then a 5 hour course is also required after the written and eye test.Good luck |

No u can keep yours. but if you are permantly moving there, then you need to change your address and whn u do tht th new license will hav tht STATE name on it n at th same time as i say if u r movin permantly u hav to change ur carTag too as it is th LAW of every STATE. but for visists no. |

yes after 30 days !!!!!!! i believe you just have to do the eye test and pay for the new one!111i dont think you need to do the written test |

I think a licnes is good in all 50 states when you get it. Atleast when I was 16 I drove to MJ all the time to visit. I didn't get pulled over but I assume if it wasn't illegal my dad would of told me. If your moving to NJ, when you change you address you might need to retake the test. I doubt it thou. |

Anytime you move anywhere you need to notify the secretary of state of the state you live in. |

no its not illegal but if you have your old id you might want to change it because banks or other places sometimes dont want to take them.I hope this helps you |

You need to get a NY license within 30 days of setting up permanent residence in NY. If you are an out-of-state college student, you may keep your out-of-state license. If you are military domiciled in another state, you may keep that state's license.
