Your nerves with driving are temporary.

I am sure you have come across things in life that at the time seem mind boggling then when you learn them, the tricks and such it becomes seccond nature.

Driving is the same.

Here is a tip.
Start slow. have one of your folks or friends let you drive their car in a large empty parking lot. Take it slow at first. Practice handling, parking and using the various equiptment on your car. Do this a couple of time before you venture out.

Then just go a mile or two, You'll get the hang of it.

When I started driving I was unbelievably nervous. Now it is just what I do to get from here to there.

Good Luck - you can do it.

i don't know what the best driving school, but what i want to say is you should learn to be focusing.
practice more would do good to solve your nervous problem.
maybe you should first learn something about driving.
have you played some driving games, if you not, maybe you can try.
sometimes i would play some driving games on the www.onlinegamesbar.com. you may have a try.

Hey, driving isn't for everybody. It's better you recognize your weakness now, rather than later.

Just make sure to focus, you don't need to be extremely tense when you drive either.
You need to relax keep your focus on the road & what's going on around you & sooner than you know it you will be able to talk & listen to music & even sing along with it, just relax, but not too much.

When I took my first behind-the-wheel I was scared as hell. My instructor made me drive to the place I feared the most: Downtown San Diego. I got so nervous because of all the one-way streets and heavy traffic. But after successfully making my way through I felt like I could drive anywhere. So my advice is to try driving through the places you feel are the scariest and just relax. Then you'll build confidence in your driving.

I was just that way too that i had to wait a couple years to get my licence. my advice...DONT WAIT. its a pain in the buutt having people drive u everywhere. Do private classes. I dont know if Adams driving school is world wide but here in chicago they have that. I took Adams and it was amazing.. by a handful of lessons you end up feeling very comfortable behind the wheel. DO NOT do lessons through the school. they dont give you enough time for practice and arent professionals in what they are doing.. dont they usually just have the gym teacher teach it? thats what they did at my high school...ANYWAY. please seirously check out adams school of driving they are amazing and teach you SAFE driving.

what? here's what you do--drink a forty, and then you'll magically get more courage. Works for me whenever I get too stoned and am all paranoid about driving.

I have a cousin who has been struggling with this same fear.

Really, there's nothing to driving a car. Drive around in a parking lot with someone who is a good responsible driver and who has a lot of patience. Go slow. Just keep practicing until you feel comfortable. You will absolutely gain a lot more confidence once you are more used to it.

Go really really slow at first, if you can get ahold of some traffic cones try setting them up in different places and driving through them (this will help you with figuring out how much room you need to maneuver the car).

There is no race to get on the road either. No harm in taking the extra time to get comfortable with the way the car moves.

Always check your blind spots, look at your mirrors every few seconds (even if it's just really quick), do it often enough that if a new vehicle (or obstacle) is around you it won't take long for you to notice. Remember the situation is constantly changing in traffic and your job is to deal with each new as safely and efficiently as possible.

Be as safe as you can, the rest is time and chance.

Don't let fear steal from you.

I was terrified of driving at first, especially when my dad was screaming at me whenever I made a mistake.

You just have to relax and focus on the act of driving, instead of worrying about making mistakes.

Mostly, just alot of practice will get you used to being around all the other cars, and at some point, driving will just click with you and won't feel like a terrifying experience.

Make sure you yield when making a left hand turn, the traffic opposite of you has the right of way when they are driving straight and your left turn is NOT an arrow. Even though the driver's manual said it, I didn't remember that little fact until I almost got into a car accident while practicing with my dad in the seat beside me. Almost had a heart attack....

ALSO to always, always, always check your blind spot before changing lanes on a freeway. I can't tell you how many times I've avoided a collision by making that last minute check. Do it multiple times if you have to as a beginner, but do it fast. People tend to be aggressive on the freeways these days, so if you check your blind spot but then hesitate when changing lanes, that might get you into an accident (especially if you're one lane away from the lane that is furthest to the left).

Anyhow, sorry if I am scaring you. But those two things are very important! Somehow that left hand turn thing went under my radar, I will never forget that moment.

Keep practicing and keep it boring. Don't go out on the highway or into heavy traffic. Just go around the block until you feel comfortable, then move on to the next thing. And make sure the person teaching you is calm and supportive - if they are critical, tense and loud, maybe they are the reason you are nervous.

i know you're nervous. I was totally nervous too. You just need to keep practicing. You will get the hang of it. I grew up in cali too but the freeways will end up a total breeze for you eventually.

ha ha i didn't go to school in santa clara, i went to sunnyvale, but the business closed:( they were really good too:(
anyways, overcoming your fears? think of something you like in life.
like, if you're a musician, think of how you'll be able to drive the band van cross country. or if you have a long distance relationship, or really like your family, think of driving to see them. it worked for me!

driving takes nerves and you have to be comfortable and relaxed and aware of whats going on around you. Its not something you just say you are going to do and one day you wake up ready to be a driver, although there are some natural born drivers. Start off small where you are comfortable like a parking lot when its no empty. Get the feel of being behind the wheel before you just jump into traffic and the open road. Learn the car and learn yourself at the same time then when you are ready you'll know.

Well, you can get the bus, subway, tram, streetcar, whatever.

IT IS CHEAPER, and by the looks of it, a lot safer for a chicken like you. Google driving schools online, and some sites might have customer ratings too.

Good Luck, just stay with PT.
