In Ontario can you be the primary driver of 2 different cars with the cars insured by two different companies?

I am currently listed as the primary driver of our van with one insurance company but I am looking to buy another car for our son to drive and would like to insure it with another company with myself being listed as the primary driver and my son occasional. Is this legal in Ontario? Its like shopping around for the best price...I think!

If your son is the principal operator then your son must be listed as the principal operator. If he is not then the insurance company has grounds to deny any future claim involving that vehicle, which means you AND your son will become financially responsible for everyone's damages. So unless you're prepared to go into debt for the rest of your life you may want to reconsider your scheme.

Yes you can i did the same thing for my everyday car and my summer car no problem with it

No, but your wife could be the primary on the other.

The first thing your new insurance company will ask you is a) how many cars are there in the household, and b) how many licensed drivers are there in the household.

They will automatically assign one car to each licensed driver before assigning a second car to any driver.

BTW, State Farm and BelAir both have this policy
