I am getting my driving permit soon, and I had one question.
Do I need to have insurance while having my permit because someone told me I didn't need insurance until I had my license.
I am in the state of California.

NO additional insurance coverage is required in the state. In fact, I've heard of parents insisting their insurance add their son/daughter to the policy!
What most parents fail to recognize is that insurance covers CARS, not people!
In the event of a collision, the insurance on the car will pay for damages to your car and, if at fault, coverage to other cars involved. NO ADDITIONAL insurance is necessary during the learning process.
Once licensed, all drivers must be on the policy. |

No, you do not need to get additional insurance. With a learner's permit, you can only drive with a licensed adult, so as long as that licensed adult has insurance on the car you're driving, you're fine. When you get your license is when you will have to be added to the insurance policy (and the rates will go up). |

If you are a driver on public roads in any state you must have current & valid car insurance. It doesn't matter if you have a learners permit, or a regular license you must have auto insurance. |
