In dire need of help for teen car insurance?

Hi guys, I'm an 18 year old male living in SE1 (SE London) and I'm trying to get insured on a 1.4 VW Polo. I hear these are quite cheap to insure, but I am getting quotes from every insurance company I try which are FAR from cheap.

They are usually around £3000!!!! I have tried adding my mum to the policy, keeping the car in garage, low annual millage, high excess, and no business miles, but im still only getting quotes for stupid money (£3000). I must have my own policy, as I need the car to be in my name so i can get the 90% discount for congestion charge (grrrr....) as I live RIGHT inside it!

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

make sure you aren't getting Comprehensive but third party only, not even fire and theft and you should be ok.
Another way out of the congestion charge is to get an LPG system or a car that has it fitted.
You'll soon realize that the bigger savings come from paying less than half for your running costs, forget the congestion charge that's a bonus.
Also, not many people are clued up to it so 2nd hand cars with LPG can still be had for cheap.

The problem is that you are considered a high risk by insurance companies. Statistics have shown the people between the age of 18 to 23 are liable to be involved in a traffic accident within the first 3 months of passing the test. Add this to you being a new driver , and in London traffic and that is why your quote is so high. The young drivers today have caused this problem for them selves , no one else.

I would have thought that you were getting the best you are going to get.

For an 18 year old in London with a 1,4 German car you are going to pay a lot.

Just to let you see the difference get some quotes for a 5 year old Corsa 1.0 and you will lose Â£1000 off those charges.

The sad truth is that people of your age are far more likely to make claims than older more experienced drivers. The figures reflect the facts.

You could try using a bike or public transport until you can afford the insurance, which will get cheaper as you become more mature anyway.

For auto insurance the best way to get a great rate is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make certain that you compare similar options with the same limits, car model, zip code, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I usually recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have discount insurers and can give multiple quotes on car insurance polices.

Simple answer - confused.com - then do a little bit more research, by phoning the company, sometimes it works!
Oh and heres some helpers for you!
1 - you do not smoke!
2 - The car is kept at your home address
3 - The car is garaged at all times! - Be carful with this one, if its ever nicked from outside - you wont be able to claim on it!
4 - You do about 8000 miles per year
5 - You use it for social domestic and commuting
6 - The car has a factory fitted alarm - even if it hasn't - once again, check point 3!
8 - You only need third party fire and theft!
7 - the car is worth slightly less than you paid for it!

Try the Co-op. CIS insurance. They do an introductory discount for new customers. They are also a decent company. Not many of these around. I assume you have asked for Third Party, Fire and Theft as this will be much cheaper than Fully Comprehensive. Change back to Fully Comp when your insurance risk declines with time.
