I am hoping to buy my daughter who is learning to drive, a car. She is under eighteen so I'd want to put the documents in my name. Can I do this if I don't have a driving license myself. Also do car dealers deliver used cars (I know they do sometimes if the car is new)

Yes, you can, but the dealer will need to see that insurance has been arranged so that they can tax the car for you. I would think that a dealer could deliver a car , but possibly for a fee that would be negotiable.
Why do you need to put the documents in your name if you are giving her the car? You will need to tell the insurance company who the car belongs to . |

Having a driving licence is not part of the contract ! - Sounds weird I know - but you CAN buy a car without a driving licence.
You couldn't drive it off the forecourt though ! Ask the dealer if they will deliver it - or take someone with you who has a full licence when you go to pay for it !

You will be able to buy the car, and you may be able to get it delivered, (for a fee) and you may be be able to insure it, but not for road use. Insurance companies will want to know the driving history of the principal drivers. However, some insurers will provide insurance against fire and theft only, as long as the car is kept off the public highway. You won't be able to tax the car without a valid certificate of insurance. If you buy the car, and keep it off the road, you'll have to make a SORN (statutory off-road notification) declaration to the DVLA. It is always better to insure the car under the driver's name, in order for the driver to build up some no claims discount. The car must be registered in the name of the principal user (known as the registered keeper) and it is an offence not to do this. |

You cannot insure a car without having a driving licence, with no insurance you cannot tax the car so the answer to your question is no. You could certainly buy a car and have the dealer deliver it to your home on his trade plates - you would have to keep it off road because you have no tax or insurance. Then when your daughter passes' her test she can get insured and tax it.
BUT, before you start getting too generous, check out the cost of insurance for a new 18 year old driver. As a non driver yourself you will get a very nasty shock! It is far from unknown for new drivers to have to pay more for insurance than their car cost! |

Yes, get them to sort out the road tax as part of the sale agreement as you will not be able to register it in your name and insure it in her name, Nor can you register it in her name as you would have to forge her signature.
