Do you have to add them to your car insurance, or do you wait until they pass the test and get their actual drivers license.

Only licensed drivers need to be added to the policy, if someone has a permit it is assumed that a licensed driver is in the car with them while driving. So no, someone with a permit does not have to be added. But once they pass their test, they do. This is a fact, so please those saying he/she needs to be added, stop... your wrong.

Ok, you actually don't HAVE to add them because if anything happened, the person in the right seat is responisble. Just like if a person is driving with a learner's permit, and get a ticket, the person in the right seat get's the ticket, not the driver.
I know my parent's added me, it's probably for the good. It's only for 6 months, and you'd always better be safe than sorry.
Call the DMV though, they'll be able to answer your question WAY better than ANYBODY here can considering that they are the ones that know them and you can account liable... |

Your car is insured for the drivers that will be driving the car. That would include the new driver. I would not want to take the chance of not covering an inexperienced driver regardless of the law. |

yes you have to add them to your insurance intill they get there own license in there own car in even if they dont get a car you still have to put them on your insurance at all times if they are riding in your car at all times that goes for all the states that have insurance |
