If the insurance company did not pay for any repairs to your vehicle then they should have allowed the no-claims bonus as you did not make a claim on the policy - so I suggest you follow this up - 1st of all politely then through the complaints service (after all it could be a mistake the company have made -although Direct companies are always looking to see if they can take advantage of their clients' ignorance). The Â£7,000 would be paid under an agreement as 'insurer concerned' with the MIB to handle claims against uninsured drivers (your insurers are the closest there was to an insurer of the vehicle).

Naturally as a broker I recommend you have your insurance through a firm of insurance brokers rather than buying directly - that way you wouldn't have this problem and have to appeal to the (with respect) untrained helpers found on these sites.

that doesn't sound right! how can he claim off your insurance when at the time you were not responsible! have you got legal advice?

Why can't UK companies fall into line with the rest of Europe?

Give your details - car details - pay and away you go. No restriction on driving anywhere in Europe. If car is stolen and causes damage company pays out.

Don't say it, I know! Problem in UK is the number of delinquents!

insurance in the UK is a rip off especially for younger drivers like myself. I got a quote from an American insurance company for a laugh just to compare and I could get my own policy on a Ford Mustang GT for the same price as being a named driver on my dads policy with a Ford Fiesta!

Im currently paying Â£2100 a year to be insured on a Jag X type, and yet they wont insure me on a little Smart Roadster.

when this happened to a member of my family my family members insurance refused to have anything to do with the claim by the person that was hit by my car becoz the car was stolen so the insurance did not cover that person to drive.The person that was hit had to take the thief to small claims court & try & get the damages that way.I dont know wot the end result was becoz once the claim was passed on they had nothing to do with it.I would of thought that would be the case with all insurance.There would be no insurance on the car 4 the thief so the insurance should refuse to pay out & they would have to find the money sum other way.If u put in a claim 2 ur insurance 4 the damage 2 ur own car done by the thief u would lose ur no claims anyway becoz of ur own claim 4 the theft but that still would not make ur insurance pay the damage 2 the person that was hit.

Yes insurance company's in the UK do rip you off ,I would make a complaint to the insurance ombudsman at Lloyd's

No that isn't right. It's utter tosh. You cannot claim from somebody who was in no way involved in the incident. I can't help thinking that there is something missing from this story.

How can the third party claim from your insurers when you weren't even driving the car at the time? Your car was stolen so the little scumbag should be responsible!
I can only think if your car was recovered,repaired and returned to you, your insurers will have taken that as a"claim" against your policy. That's may be why you've lost your no-claims bonus.
