Today someone crashed into my car, anyway both cars have minor damage but they're trying to say it was my fault and claiming on their insurance etc. etc. Anyway, i was just wondering if the price of insurance increases for a driver who has crashed, how long does it go up for and if they don't insure the car during that time (i may be at uni) Will the increased charges be saved for until they next insure the car?

First, were the police called? If so, they usually cite the driver who is at fault. Read your policy. All insurance companies have their own rules so it's possible your insurance rates might go up whether you are at fault or not. Insurance rates can go up as much as 40% unless your company offers "accident forgiveness." Rates typically rise for 1-3 years, again depending on the company. If this person crashed into your car (hit you from behind), they are at fault. The one who rear-ends another car is almost always found at fault. If you are not filing a claim for your damages, and the other person is trying to get compensation from their own insurance company (like in a no-fault state), you might not have any problem at all. The only way to know for sure is to contact your agent.
