Insurance question from a CA driver?

I live in CA and my employer wants to loan me a car to get to and from work because I don't have one. His car is insured but Im not insured under his policy. What am I liable for and what is he liable for?

Insurance covers AUTOS, not individuals. How do you know you're not covered under his policy? Unless it is specifically stated, most policies cover anyone driving a car (with permission of the owner.) In those cases where the insurance states "named drivers only" then your employer would need to either change coverage or apply for a "rider" for your use of his car. He'd also end up paying a surcharge for the "rider."

A "rider" is a policy supplement that changes the contents of a policy.

that would be something you'd need to discuss with your employer and reduce it to written form before you start driving his car. Who pays for fuel? What about repairs? Insurance?
