I want to buy a truck and sell my 98 lumina.. If I switch vehicles, and the insurance company re-evaluates. My parents are saying that they would see my speeding ticket (back in June of 08) and the insurance would go up.. is this true?

depends on the company but it's a possibility. I work for a non-standard company. I thought that insurance companies weren't allowed to reevaluate you until your policy renews but I've heard of allstate doing some wierd things like requiring you to put everone with a license on your policy whether or not they are planning on driving. Most companies will allow you to put them as exclusions which just means they're not covered. If you ask your parents agent they can give you information like that even if they won't give you info on your specific policy they can answer your question. It all comes down to the fine writing in the contract, they have to explain it to you. |

sooner or later the insurance co will become aware of your drivers license status/probably on your re-insurance date. practice dont ask dont tell. however if they specifically ask if you have any moving violations dont--do not lie. as they may deny a claim for lying on the app. |

Your parents are correct, they will likely run another search on your driver's license record and the ticket will likely come up if you were found guilty of the violation. Sometimes an insurance company that you have been with for a long time will let you slide with one violation or a minor accident. |

Your parents are very wise. Yes that is entirely possible. Anytime your insurance has any reason to pull up your record, this is a possibility. Lay low for a couple of years and do nothing to cause your insurance to look at you and/or your record. No address changes, no coverage changes, no claims... Nothing ! |
