Insurance question re: new car?

In general, most insurance policies give some leeway. It can vary from 14 to 30 days. The amount of time depends on the language in your policy. So make sure you call your agent on Tues and add the car to your policy.

Make sure you have a bill of sale showing when you purchased the car.

If the new car is a replacement vehicle - it will be covered for this limited time by the coverages that were on the old vehicle.

Make sure you do not miss the deadline for the grace period. If you have a wreck with the car after the grace period there will be no coverage.

Nope - no leeway - not insured - on fully comp you are insured to drive a car NOT belonging to you but only with THIRD party cover

You are automatically covered when a new vehicle is acquired. The
dealership would have checked to be sure that you previously had
full coverage and faxed this to the company. It works like a binder, as
they are not open on a normal business work day,just call them Tuesday and tell them all.

As stated, you cannot drive the car until it is insured, any cover provided for other vehicles on your policy ONLY applies to vehicles NOT BELONGING to you.

I have to ask the question, you must have known at some point before the day of collection, that you were buying it so why didn't you contact the insurance company once you had agreed to buy it to get it covered from the time that you were collecting it?

Some companies are different.I personally would not drive the new car until i had proof of insurance on it in my hand. There are so many loopholes out there,for somebody to sue you if you were involved in an accident without having current dated proof, so i wouldnt take the chance of not having it. Some states the local police will give you a ticket if you dont have proof of current insurance to show them if stopped-so again-its better to be safe then sorry...

No leeway, I'm afraid. You will have to wait.
If the police catch you during uninsured your car is impounded until you come up with insurance and you get fined and you pay the storage charges.

if your fully comp, then i think you are covered 3rd party but i am not sure, u might want to check that out.
