I was stopped last Friday and given a ticket for not having insurance. I didn't have it at the time so needless to say I did not have a card to show proof either. I have taken care of it now and my insurance was even back dated( so it says I really did have it on the day I was stopped). My question is, if I find a cop and show him my insurance card does any one know if he could sign off on the ticket?Police officers can do this for things like broken tail lights and tinted windows (non-moving violations)so on and so forth if you have them fixed. Since I know that my ticket was not a moving violation, I'm thinking it should be a fixable offense. Does anyone know for sure?

No, read the ticket carefully. It is not a ticket for not having insurance, it is a ticket for failure to show proof of insurance. The law is specific, you must carry proof of coverage and show it to law enforcement on request.
It doesn't matter you 'had' insurance, you didn't have the card to show you had insurance. They will probably drop it down to just court costs when you show the card, but no, it isn't just a fix it ticket. |
