That sounds about right for a new car with full coverage, new driver under 25, unmarried. Your other insurance rates just went up since he went on your policy.

Unless you are set on that car, you should switch it for a nice used car that he have PLPD insurance on.

My insurance cost for PLPD for the entire year is less than $500 and in the past, I have been able to drive vehicles that are in the 5-10 years range and paid cash for them.

When car shopping, one should look at total cost of a vehicle including insurance.

I am a 23yr old female living in North Jersey and I pay $2400 a year and that is the best rate I could even find. I have a perfect driving record...have never even been pulled over. So I wouldn't doubt rates are around $3000 especially if you are living in a very congested area.

Look before you leap. Where ya been -- insurance was expensive when I was 18. You should have called the ins company to inquire about insurance before an 18 year old drives a expensive new car... I guess your son was driving one of the family trucks. This must be the first car he has owned. They expect him to total that car out before he is 24. And they must pay. $3000 for accepting the risk... This not against your son --- this is the national average for kids with cars his age. This is not against you or your son. Just the way thing are...

Wow, I think that's high. Did you son go to driving school? And if he is in college and has a B average he might get a discount. I know its expensive for your adults to have insurance but that sounds excessive. I would shop around.

I think that's horrible, but maybe its due to his age. I got a new 2007 car and my insurance is a little under $500 for 6 months and about $88 bucks a month. You definitely need to do some insurance shopping. I also get a great discount because of a credit union I use. You should look for a company that gives discounts for membership to certain organizations. I think I got like a 10 percent discount.

Shop around. My family came across a similar situation. The insurance company my parents had been using for close to 40 years charged them through the roof when they added me to their policy.

Now I'm 21 and looking for insure on a 2008 Subaru Legacy, it is looking like its going to be about $1900 a year.

im 20 and i pay 3100 for full coverage so im in the same boat. i depends where you live too. i live in philadelphia and theres alot of traffic also two of the worst intersections in the country so that doesnt help at all. also depends on the car if its two door its higher or if he got the supercharged that could be why also. shop around for quotes it doesn't hurt. for young people stay away from the big companys they'll want way too much try ERIE, or AIG thats the last two ive had

Insurance premiums depend on many factors, age, zip code, male vs female, the type of car, etc..

Males typically have higher insurance rates than females. Has your son had any accidents or speeding tickets, this also would explain a higher rate. Is the insurance in his name or your name? You may be able to get a lower rate if the policy is under your name instead of his. What is the deductible on the policy, you could raise the deductible which would lower the premium. If you are would like to know what factors contributed to such a high premium make an appointment with your insurance company and sit down with your agent and ask him to explain the factors. He may also have some suggestions for lowering the premiums.

unless your son has a horrible driving record, $3000 is out of this world. New car or not, it should not be that high, unless he gets into car accidents every other day or something.
