Is car insurance active on expiration date?

Hey there, I have to renew my car insurance on or before December 8th. I did not realize it was on a Monday so it's impossible for me to reach my agent during the weekend.

I was wondering, is my insurance active on the "expiration date"? My proof of insurance shows it expires on the 8th...does that mean the 8th is the last day I am insured or that means the 7th is the last day?

I'll renew on the 8th anyways, but this is a crazy world and who knows what bad luck might happen on that one day!

Call your agent first thing Monday morning and tell them to start the renewal!

Insurance policies expire at midnight (not 11:59), so you are insured all day up until midnight on the 8th. Your renewal will state it is effective 12:01am on the 9th. If you waited until the 9th to renew, it would be effective at whatever time of day it was actually processed.

As a licenced broker, I have NEVER seen a policy for auto, home, commercial, liability, casualty, travel health, medical plans, small business, vehicle storage, short-term goods-in-transit, or any other type of policy expire at the start of the day named as the expiry date. As a vehicle registrations agent, I have NEVER seen a registration expire at the start of the day named as the expiry date. As a driver licence issuer, I have never seen a driver licence expire at the start of the day named as the expiry date.

Policies generally start, and always expire, at 12:01am on the date referenced. So, as of 12:02am, on Monday, you have no insurance.

It EXPIRES on the 8th. You do NOT get that day covered for free. I promise. Pull a copy of your policy and read it. All the answers above me are INCORRECT, and YOU will be paying the price for it, if you're in an accident.

For automobile insurance the obvious way to get a great rate is do a policy comparison on auto policies. Make certain that you choose similar policies with the same deductibles, auto model, zip code, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I usually recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have big name insurers and can give multiple prices on auto insurance polices.
