Yep, it's the law that you have liability insurance on your car. The penalties are substantial if you are caught driving without insurance.

If you should cause an accident without insurance you could wind up walking for the rest of your life as most states will pull your license until you pay the damages. In a serious accident, that could take decades. (I have a family friend who has been walking for nearly 20 years because of this.)

Lastly, if you are uninsured many states will not allow you to collect anything if someone else causes the accident. You could be sitting at a red light and get rammed by a drunk driver with insurance and you wouldn't collect for anything but your injuries. It's called "No Play, No Pay" and is becoming pretty widespread throughout the country. In Louisiana you won't even collect for your hospital bills.

let me ask you this,if somebody hits you,totals out your car,sends you to the hospital for a long period of time,wouldnt you wan the party that hit you pay for everything or you pay?insurance is to cheap to be getting sued over if its your fault.to the rite thing and get insurance.and it is a law.you dont know if you are going to be invloved in a accident in the future unless you can see the future.

Yes its a law, and you ought to have insurance. Even if its just liability. Liability is cheaper....So if you drive an older car.....go with liability. But you would get nothing if you have an accident. But the other person would always be covered by your liability insurance. You'd be in great trouble if you get caught for a simple traffic stop and you have no insurance. Try Geico, its the best.

What if something bad does happen?

Most states do require that you carry insurance if you are the owner of the car.

If you don't want to pay for insurance I believe you can post a cash bond of approximately $40,000, and then you won't have to get insurance.

Insurance doesn't necessarily have to protect you, you can get liability only and liability covers any one that you might hit.

Unless you have an extra $40,000 laying around or more if you kill someone (at least $300,000 if you kill someone or disable them) you should just spend the money and get at least liability insurance. What if there is an accident and you his some guy in a Hummer or a Mercedes? You have the $5,000-$10,000 to fix his car laying around? I guarantee you they won't let you pay $100 per month for the rest of your life and drive around with their car broken until you can pay enough to have it fixed for them.

I live in AZ and there are so many people in accident without insurance it is horrible.

Can you imagine someone running you over in their car and then they can't pay for your medical bills ($50,000....$100,000.....or more-hospitals aren't cheap) and you have to pay yourself. I don't know about you but I don't have that kind of money laying around.

Insurance isn't for you....It is for the damage you could do to others.

some states make it mandatory for all drivers to have some sort of insurance on the vehicle. Most states make it necessary to have a proof of insurance to get your license plates or renew them. Not to mention if it IS required my law in your state, if you get pulled over and have no proof of insurance, they can fine you and/or put you in jail. My advice is buy the cheapest insurance you can get, assuming it is required in your state. If it is not required in your state, then you can take the chance on driving with no insurance but if someone hits you and it is no fault of your own, you'll get screwed.

Every state has a financial responsibility law. That doesn't necessary mean you have to have insurance, although that is the simplest way to meet that law. If you prefer, you can be self insured by posting a bond with the state with the amount of minimum coverage required but few have than kind of cash laying around, I suppose Bill Gates could do it. If you are stopped, what do they ask for?

Yes it is the law. You might be a safe driver and not have any accidents. But it's the other driver you have to worry about. Insurance not only protects you but other drivers. If you are in a accident and someone is injured they can sue you. If you don't have insurance they can sue you personally. I would rather them sue the Insurance company than me or you. If the police or highway patrol stop you and you don't have proof of insurance thay can take your drivers license away, fine you and make your life miserable. The smart move is to get insurance. Yes you will be penalized for not having insurance.
