I'm 18 with a full drivers license but I have no insurance. If someone drives with no insurance, is it just as bad as no license? Or, is it legally ok to drive with no insurance as long as you don't crash? It makes sense that you can drive with no insurance, BUT you must not crash? It's your option if you want coverage or not right? Just like credit card insurance, house etc

No, auto insurance is required by law. Nobody can guarantee they will not cause a collision. Seriously injure or kill someone, and the court will garnish your wages for the rest of your life. How would you compensate the owner of a $75,000 Mercedes if you hit them and totaled it. Offer to pay them $50 a month? Wise up. |

It is just as bad as driving with no license. You don't have to crash to get nailed for no insurance.
If a cop pulls you over and you don't have insurance, you'll still get your license suspended.
If you get into an accident that's not your fault, the cop is still going to ask for your insurance. If you don't have it, your license gets suspended.
You can buy a basic minimum coverage liability only policy for cheap. If you can't get insurance though the big name companies, try companies like Safe Auto. |

no its not ok to drive with no insurance you cannot guarantee that you wont crash and if you do you will not be covered and the person you hit would have to go through their insurance which is unfair if you caused the accident. |

Accident CAN happen any time on any day and any second. Driving with No insurance you would get a hefty fine up to $5000, court date, and possibly a fine and/or jail time and DL suspension. |

In my state car insurance is absolutely required and you can't even register your car without proof of insurance. They can impound your car and make you pay their storage fees!
Most people don't choose to crash and no matter how careful thet are, kids run out into the street, heavy rains, wind, mudslides, road debris, etc. it happens to pretty much everyone at some point.
Even if you don't care about hurting someone else accidentally, if your state is as strict as mine, your life will be destroyed once you are caught driving without insurance. |
